Clayton has been a software engineer with Autodesk for nearly 15 years, starting with the Developer Consulting team, known today days as “DevTech”, in early 2000, supporting, among others, the AutoCAD, AutoCAD OEM and RealDWG APIs, and evangelizing them worldwide for the Autodesk Developer Network (ADN). Based in San Rafael, and supporting and championing the APIs developed there, he was able to form a great and lasting relationship with the AutoCAD development team which continues today.
In 2006, Clayton relocated to Neuchatel, Switzerland with his wife, Helene, and joined the EMEA Autodesk Consulting (AC) team where he gained invaluable experience (in the trenches, as it were) building solutions for a huge variety of Autodesk customers and partners. He developed CAD and GIS tools and frameworks which are still widely in use (even as recently as AU 2014).
During his time in the AC EMEA team, Clayton was able to take advantage of the incredible outdoor life that Switzerland has to offer; hiking, biking, swimming, skiing all possible within just a few minutes travel. Also, the experience of years in another culture is one which can simply never be forgotten.
After 6 amazing years in Switzerland, Clayton and Helene returned home to the Bay Area (with 2 cats and dog in tow!) to join the Autodesk Labs team, where he worked on the incredibly interesting and noteworthy project Argon (cloud-hosted AutoCAD LT, Revit, Inventor), before another brief opportunity in Autodesk Consulting (this time in AC America) stole him away over the last 18 months.
During this last year, Clayton had several engaging and inspiring discussions with Mark Davis and John Schmier about some of the incredibly interesting work being started in the Research Team, so when the opportunity arose, it was an absolute no-brainer; he had found his people!
Clayton currently lives in the East San Francisco Bay Area, and enjoys hiking, making music and a new appreciation for life with life-long friends after being away for so long.
